I was out using my 5460 to snowblow a fresh snowfall off the drive. I was on my last run when suddenly the tractor slowly came to a stop. Snowblower was still running. I moved it in reverse without a problem. I tried switching from Hi-Lo with no help. After a couple minutes it slowly started to move forward. At the end of my run I went into reverse to help turn it around and again lost forward motion when I tried to go forward. I used brute force to lift each wheel briefly off the ground (using the handles) and each wheel spun a little. I backed it up the long drive and parked.
Any ideas??
Paul.

the clutch could be stuck and not moving inside to the forward position maybe? make sure the rod lever is tight on the shaft going into the trans.

Thanks for the tip. I have adjusted the tension on the springs at the end of the control rod and it has helped a bit. But, I still lose forward motion when going up my long incline on the driveway. I am going to do another round of adjustment to see if I can get it to work. But, it does seem like a clutch is slipping. I also posted on the Yahoo group and this is the prevailing thought.
I'll post an update after the next round of adjustments.

have you torn into the clutches before? i recently opened an older L and the clutch was stck to where it would only move one way once cleaned it worked both so it may just have trash keeping it from fully engaging. just a thought

I've never dealt with the clutches. I'm still hoping it has to do with either poor adjustment of the springs on the control rod or a missing woodruff key on the actuator shaft that allows the actuating lever to have some slop in it. Unfortunately, it is so bitterly cold outside that working for more than 5 minutes would lead to frostbite! I'll likely work on it tomorrow. I'll keep you posted. If I need to open it up an take a look at the clutches I'll certainly need more help and be posting Paul.

I went back out for a few minutes in the cold. I removed the actuator lever and the woodruff key and lever mechanism were intact and without any visible wear. I also checked and re-adjusted the control lever. Frostbite was attacking so I didn't have a chance to give it a test. I'll post again tomorrow after I do a test run.
